Just when you think it can't possibly get much worse here in the US, you are hit with more and more states enacting total abortion bans.
Lawmakers in Oklahoma have joined the bandwagon of wanting to murder pregnant people. (A lawmaker in Missouri, which I wrote a blog post on, wanted to do the same thing.) They want to make abortions for ectopic pregnancies illegal. An ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening medical emergency for pregnant people. This is when the fetus implants outside of the uterus, commonly in one of the fallopian tubes. The tube will burst if the fetus isn't removed, resulting in massive internal hemorrhaging for the pregnant person which will kill her.
Oklahoma has also passed the most restrictive abortion ban in the nation with it being a felony for a woman to receive an abortion. There are not exceptions for rape or incest, of course, because the "good evangelicals" believe that rape in all circumstances are the woman's fault.
Evangelicals preach that a woman is raped because "she caused a man to lust for her." This is a disgusting, misogynistic mindset. Rape is about power, not about attraction. It is never the woman's fault, ever. Evangelicals are victim blamers, and they insist that if women "dressed modestly," then she wouldn't have been raped. Of course, they're incapable of critical thinking, but if they did actually try to think critically about this, then they would ask themselves why nuns and women who wear sweatshirts, sweatpants, turtlenecks, etc., are still raped.
It's like these evangelicals have taken the Handmaid's Tale as a how-to manual in order to force their theocracy. Fuck that.
I am empowering you to let your voice be heard so you can make an impact.
Therefore, let me introduce this gem. Have you seen the Handmaid's Tale on Hulu? If you have, you know exactly what this is referencing. If you haven't, here's the scoop.
But let's not stop there.
We need to get more specific in order to drive the point home. It's not just about our bodies being our choices, it's also about not allowing evangelical men and women strip us of our body autonomy. Our uterus is OUR internal organ. We decide. It's our choice.
It's time to rise up. Break free from being silent and let your voice be heard. Empower yourself so you can be bold and make an impact.
